Pickleball clinic scheduled

Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation will host a free Pickleball clinic this month for those interested in learning more about the game.
The clinic will be held Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. at the Emerald Isle Community Center gymnasium. Pre-registration is required.
Pickleball is played on a badminton court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center. A perforated plastic ball similar to a whiffle ball and wood or composite paddles are used.
Rick Laskey, a USA Pickleball Association ambassador, will lead the clinic. Laskey, a volleyball player and national volleyball referee, took up pickleball after moving to Eastern North Carolina several years ago and has since participated in tournaments across the country, according to the clinic announcement.
